The catalyst that makes your life work or not work is your belief in YOU...

The ABCs of Personal Empowerment
BELIEVE

Believing in yourself is a pragmatic approach to moving forward in your life.   Believing in your endeavors comes from within you, from your self-belief.

What you believe you can do is the real trick.  If you believe you can, you are right - if you believe you cannot, you are also right, because either becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.  We look at people who have accomplished great things and marvel at their achievements.  But if you actually spoke with them as they were in the midst of those activities, you would hear them express their self-doubt, their insecurities, and the decisions to reach deep inside themselves for that element of courage to take them through the darkness and into the light.  You would also learn that these individuals encountered failure, sometimes repeated failure as they struggled to succeed - because that is part of the process.

Success is a process, not an event.  Failure is not the opposite of success, it is part of the process.  Observers see success as an event, like winning the lottery.  But as history has shown, most lottery winners have lost it all within 5 years.  They weren’t internally developed to handle it because they didn’t have to go through the forging and honing process that refined their ability to handle wealth.  In subsequent posts, I will write about these facets of success, but this one is devoted to your belief in yourself.  People achieve great things because they believe they can, even in the face of everything that says they cannot.  They believe they can because they decide to believe, and not because they were struck with a wand or an iron pipe and woke up believing.

Self-believers also weather the storms of self-doubt and the doubts of doubters, skeptics, and cynics all around us.  No one has ever achieved anything great without lots of people near them telling them it isn’t possible.  Had they listened to the them, they would simply have become a hapless doubter themselves and languished in that lifestyle.  Instead, great achievers decided to succeed despite the skeptics, and obstacles, and headwinds, and failures that every great achiever encounters on their journey to success.

There will be plenty of time for self-doubt on the journey.  There will be times of paralyzing doubt and fear along the way, sometimes referred to as being ‘scared sh**less’ that will try your soul to its very core, but it is in this very crucible where your belief is refined to its purest form, or where it can evaporate in one sudden flash, like a flash in the pan.  Those who emerge from that fiery crucible continue on their journey with a steely belief that can bend but will not break, and they are the ones who achieve great things in their lives.

Here is my offer to you: Allow me to work with you, and guide you along your path.   I cannot walk the path for you, but I can walk it with you.  I will coach and mentor you, helping you see the path forward, avoid some serious obstacles, and help work through the problems and messes that will surely arise.   This is what the Dreams, Goals, and Growth Series is all about.
